Why Does My Pet Need Rehabilitaion
Pet rehabilitation, just like rehab therapy for humans, is designed to restore our canine clients to their maximum level of functioning and movement – as well as safely maintain that ability – for them to enjoy the best quality of life. We believe that this in turn enhances the bond between animals and humans.
The Rehab Center, identifies problems and concerns that interfere with an animal’s mobility, and then formulate goals and treatment plans designed to:
- Provide pain relief
- Restore muscle tone and stability
- Improve flexibility and range of motion
- Improve function and performance
- Prevent injury
- Provide conditioning/increased physical potential
- Facilitate weight loss
Through education, the owner can know how to best support an ongoing plan of care for their companion at home. This is a team effort that includes owners, referring veterinarians and Stoney Creek’s highly trained rehab professionals. On the initial visit, the dog will be evaluated regarding the gain of strength, range of motion, pain management and mobility. This assessment, combined with the referring veterinarian’s history and diagnosis, will be the foundation on which an individualized treatment plan is developed. This plan also includes owner participation with exercises at home to support the pet’s progress. Please call Stoney Creek Vet Hospital for scheduling or more information.
Hydrotherapy Treatment
Exercising and rehabilitating your pet in the water has many benefits such as reducing weight bearing stress on the joints and increasing their range of motion. The Stoney Creek Rehab Center has an Underwater Treadmill which helps with Rehabilitation, Strengthening, and Weight Loss.
The underwater treadmill is an enclosed chamber and provides a way to gradually increase weight-bearing exercises. Therapist will fill the chamber with more water to decrease weight or fill with less water to increase weight bearing. This provides a great way to gradually exercise or rehabilitate your pet.
